Thinking about getting Invisalign®? Read on to learn some of the benefits of choosing this teeth-straightening treatment. Most people want a beautiful smile, but many people do not want to undergo teeth-straightening treatments that involve conspicuous metal braces. Fortunately, another option called Invisalign involves wearing transparent aligner trays over time to correct tooth misalignment. A trip to the orthodontist can help patients with alignment issues determine if Invisalign is the right treatment for them.
Benefits of undergoing Invisalign
When compared to other orthodontic treatments, Invisalign has several advantages for users, including:
Virtually invisible on the teeth
The Invisalign system comprises transparent aligners that fit over the teeth and are almost invisible. Yes, it may be possible to notice them if someone moves closely enough. However, it is doubtful that anybody would notice their presence on the teeth for daily use, such as going to work and socializing.
More comfortable on the teeth
The transparent aligner trays from Invisalign are constructed from a smooth plastic material with no sharp points or edges that may bruise gum tissues. They are created to fit over the teeth from an imprint, and patients will wear a set of aligners for a few weeks before switching to the next one in the sequence. This gently moves the teeth into their proper place without placing any strain on the mouth.
Improved oral hygiene and cleaning
Since the aligner trays are removable, it is easier to clean the teeth properly with Invisalign. Patients can take out the trays, brush their teeth and aligners with a toothbrush, and replace them. Unlike braces, there are no special tools required to clean the teeth, considering there are no wires or brackets standing in the way.
Less risk of injury
The wire and metal components used in traditional metal braces may scrape and bruise the inside of the mouth and cheeks. Invisalign trays do not have such rough edges, which means the chances of damage with conventional braces are reduced.
Fewer orthodontic appointments
When patients opt for Invisalign, the orthodontist will typically provide all the aligner trays at once. All that is required is to replace them at the recommended intervals, usually every two weeks. This removes the need to return to the orthodontist for further adjustments. If an aligner is broken due to oral trauma or an accident, the orthodontist will likely recommend replacing it with the next one in the series. Appointments are usually six weeks apart and allow the orthodontist to monitor treatment progress.
No dietary restrictions
Traditional braces often come with several diet limitations that many patients find unpleasant. Fresh fruits and vegetables and hard or chewy meals are often limited due to the risks of harm to the braces' structure. There are no such limitations with Invisalign. Patients can remove the tray and eat anything they want, then re-insert them later.
